NAMI Independent Living

Our Philosophy

How we approach care.

At NAMI Independent Living, our approach blends lived experience as an autism family with professional expertise in special education and ABA. The result is care that is personal, practical, and quietly transformative.

  1. 01

    Person-centered, always.

We start by listening. Each person has their own story, strengths, goals, and rhythms, and our care plans grow out of those, not from a template. We move at the pace that feels right for the individual and the family.

  2. 02

    Lived experience plus real expertise.

Our team brings both the professional grounding of special education and ABA training, and the lived experience of raising and supporting people with developmental disabilities. Neither one alone is enough. Together they shape care that is skilled and genuinely understanding.

  3. 03

    Independence as a daily practice.

Independence is built one small skill at a time, in the actual places where life happens. We focus on practical growth that compounds, the kind that makes a person's daily life feel more theirs.

  4. 04

    Dignity is non-negotiable.

Every interaction is shaped by respect. We honor preferences, communication styles, choices, and the right of every person to be the author of their own life. Dignity is not a value we display, it is a value we practice.

  5. 05

    Community is the goal.

Real lives happen in real communities. We support the relationships, routines, and places that make a person feel known, helping individuals participate in their neighborhoods, workplaces, and chosen circles.
